Carsten Manzi was born in 2017 in Rwanda. He developed into a very lovely little healthy boy, who loved to play just like any normal kid.
At the age of two and a half years, however, Manzi developed a persistent fever which worried his parents a lot. They quickly sought medical attention where doctors run some tests and to their shock, they were told that Manzi had blood cancer called – a condition called acute Myeloid Leukaemia. This diagnosis left his parents utterly devastated. Innocent, his father actually fainted upon learning about the test results. Innocent and his lovely wife almost lost their minds and had to go for counselling in order to come to terms with the condition their little boy – Manzi.
They attended King Faisal Hospital in Kigali Rwanda where doctors gave them some hope saying that if Manzi could receive proper treatment, his chances of getting well were very high. However, his parents were told that such a facility where he would get the much needed adequate and effective treatment did not exist in Rwanda. Their only option was to travel to one of the following countries: South Africa, India, UK, or the USA where they would be able to find the right facilities and doctors to treat Manzi. Of course, this did not happen because it required lots and lots of money which Manzi’s parents did not have. They are still in that place of perpetual worry because all they can see is their little Manzi’s life slipping out of their hands because they cannot raise that kind of money on their own.
Manzi’s father has approached us to launch a fundraising drive to save little Manzi’s life – we are looking to raise at least £50,000 and this would just be for the medical bill – this does not even include travel and subsistence in the country that they would travel to for Manzi’s treatment.
We as City of Refuge Foundation in partnership with Shiloh Tabernacle London are speaking for Manzi – who cannot speak for himself and also for his parents who cannot reach many people and desperately in need of help so they can save their son.
All we are asking is for you to find it in your heart to help us give little Manzi a chance. A chance to grow up, to go to school, play with other kids and just be a kid like all of us once were – please join us and together let’s give this young beautiful kid a chance.
